Jodie Carey - Selected Works

Jodie Carey’s work explores the cycle of life and death through the rituals and commemorations we undertake. Recently Carey has used the idea of the monument to explore notions of passing of time, ageing and memory. Instead of the typical marble or stone, she uses ephemeral materials that will rot and decay. This subverts the sensibilities of glory and reverence that these public memorials often command.  Carey’s work examines the shadowy boundary between forgetting and remembering, how we choose to deal with the death of a loved one and ultimately, the fragility of human life.
