Dix was one of the most prominent representatives of German Nachexpressionisten generation. He was co-founder of the Dresden Secession 1919 and painted in the 1920s socially critical images in the style of New Objectivity. In 1955 he participated in the Documenta and 1964 in the Documenta III. His works are found mainly in the German and European museums, as in the New National Gallery in Berlin or the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich.
