Maria Novella - Selected Works

Maria Novella del Signore uses various media to investigate the relationship between art, nature and science. The artist’s practice is akin to a laboratory, experimenting with the possibilities of materials and processes and the implications of experimental artist movements in Italy such as Arte Povera.

Del Signore’s work stresses the importance of spontaneity and the irrational as opposed to cold, systematic logic, often putting quasi-scientific equipment to poetic and whimsical ends. She achieves a balancing act in her work between her own intentions and the nature of the materials, which are often left to self-organise.
