Kinetica Art Fair

selected works

Kinetica Art Fair, one of London’s annual landmark art exhibitions and a permanent fixture in the Art Fair calendar, brings together galleries, art organisations and curatorial groups from around the world who focus on kinetic, electronic, robotic, sound, light, time-based and multi-disciplinary new media art, science and technology.

All Visual Arts will present work by international artists that demonstrate where science and art collide. Artists featured are: Alyson Shotz, Maria Novella del Signore, Ben Tyers and Hilary Berseth.

Hilary Berseth’s Untitled 2 is an attempt to instigate novel behaviour from natural processes. The work is developed in a tank filled with a copper-rich chemical solution, and when electricity is coursed through the sculptural armature, it creates an attractive field that deposits metal on the form.

Alyson Shotz’s Ice Network is based on research done at Yale University by ice physicist John Wettlaufer. The shape of the sculpture describes the phenomenon of water that continues to flow around the edges of ice crystals at temperatures below the freezing point.

Ben Tyers' Breathe is a machine that inhales and exhales the same capacity of air as two human lungs. This work points to the evolution and growth present in natural systems and which are absent from existing technology.

Maria Novella del Signore’s Quartet is a sculpture made up of light and water where one part of the process is under the artist’s control and the other is what emerges as its opposite: a chaotic representation of the self organisation of nature.
